The Opus 3 label needs no introduction to most audiophiles as this Swedish company has been around for a long time - issuing high quality performances with amazing sound to appeal not only to the audiophile among us, but to music collectors as well.

Tomas Ornberg / Gunnar Lidberg / Pygme Jazzband / Stans Band Glad Jazz or Happy Jazz as it is also called - is the first expression that comes to mind on hearing this disc. And surely, few musicians are happier when playing than these people, and their sheer delight in playing puts extra zest into every single number. Pygme Jazzband today is a group of big men who have been playing Dixie since the 1950's, when all of them were pygmy size. Stan's Band was formed in 1973 by trumpeter Peter Kjellin. For its first year the group played as a quartet and took part in several European and American jazz festivals, including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the jazz festival in Nice. In the years that followed, Stan's Band spent a lot of time touring Scandinavia and the U.S.A. and expanded, first into a quintet and then into a sextet.
