Only Gen III servers accept 8GB DIMMs. How to check my generation? Pull out your service tag. There will be roman numerals located on the tag. Your system needs to be “III” in order to work with 64GB of RAM.
“I” and “II” max out at 32GB RAM with 4GB DIMMs.
