1993:
The greatest endurance race in the world is the ultimate mix of high-speed action, drama and skill and the 1993 running of the Le Mans 24 hours race was no exception.

Now you can experience all the highlights of this extraordinary event on DVD in Le Mans 1993.

Incredible footage brings you the full story of more than 3,000 miles of racing at the classic Circuit de la Sarthe as the Peugeots and Toyotas battled with each other.

It was a close fought race, and a memorable one as the French Peugeots took first, second and third on home soil - and with five out of nine drivers from France as well.

1994:
The 1994 race was won by a car that had its roots in a 10-year-old design. Porsche exploited an unusual quirk in the GT regulations at the time, using German fashion magnate Jochen Dauer in a plan to have a street-legal version of the outdated and now illegal Porsche 962 built.

Using this road car design, Porsche entered two racing modified Dauer 962s in the GT category. With factory support, the Dauer 962 was able to take the win, the other 962 coming in a close third. Toyota, having themselves dusted off a pair of Group C chassis after its 3.5-litre engined TS010 was no longer eligible, suffered transmission problems with 90 minutes to go, leaving Eddie Irvine to finish 2nd in his 94C-V.

1995:
The 1995 race was won by a McLaren F1 GTR entered in the GT1 category.

The car was already well known for dominating the BPR Global GT Series with customer teams, but the car that won was actually the initial GTR prototype that was on loan to Kokusai Kaihatsu Racing. Mario Andretti's Courage finished second, having been the sentimental favourite of many in the run-up to the race.

However the reliability of the production-based McLaren helped it defeat the much faster Le Mans prototypes.

1996:
The 1996 race was won by a car that was considered by Porsche to not be a factory-backed entry, instead run by Joest Racing.

Porsche themselves sent a team to compete in the GT1 class with a new mid-engined Porsche 911 GT1 with the intent of winning the race overall, defeating custom-built Le Mans Prototypes. Joining in the GT1 class were a fleet of customer McLaren F1 GTRs, the defending race winners.

However Joest's prototype was born from the shell of a TWR-designed Jaguar XJR-14 racing car, modified to an open top design by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, and fitted with a Porsche 962 engine. The resulting TWR Porsche WSC-95, while not being the fastest car on track, won when the manufacturer-backed teams hit mechanical troubles.

1997:
The 1997 race was won by the same chassis as had won in 1996, marking the second time that Joest had won back-to-back Le Mans with the same chassis (previously done in 1984 and 1985).

They were able to beat factory teams in both GT and LMP classes from Porsche, McLaren, Nissan, and Ferrari.

The TWR-Porsche was not the fastest on track during the race, but was able to take advantage of the leading Porsche 911 GT1's and McLaren F1 GTR's mechanical problems, allowing the Joest Racing machine to claim victory by one lap.

1998:
1998 saw a significant increase in manufacturer involvement. Porsche and Mercedes-Benz remained, with upgraded cars in both GT1 and LMP. Toyota sent three of their new, extremely fast GT-One racing cars, while BMW, in association with WilliamsF1, launched the new BMW V12 LM. Nissan sent 4 of their new R390 GT1s. The United States was also represented properly with a two car team from Panoz, with Ford powered Esperante GTR-1s.

Porsche won the race as the faster cars from Mercedes, BMW and Toyota retired with mechanical difficulties and accident damage. The remaining Nissans and outdated McLarens were unable to match the pace of the upgraded 911 GT1s. Following this race, Porsche went into a sabbatical, rumored to be part of a plan to allow Porsche's partner Audi to develop their own sportscar without competition from within the alliance.

1999:
The race got off to a fast start, proceeding like a sprint for the first few hours.

The top qualifying #1 & #2 Toyotas driven by Martin Brundle & Thierry Boutsen fought with the #6 Mercedes driven by Bernd Schneider, and the #5 Mercedes driven by Christophe Bouchut.

The #17 BMW was never far behind and used its superior fuel economy to gain the lead through the pit stops. Toyota #1, #2, Mercedes #6 and BMW #17 all led the race at various points. At 8pm, 5 hours into the race the #17 BMW lead the race with #2 Toyota 2nd, #5 Mercedes 3rd and #6 Mercedes 4th.

It was during this fight for second and third place when Dumbreck's famous incident occurred. This led to the immediate withdrawal of the remaining #6 Mercedes.

Hello :-)

IMPORTANT DVD INFORMATION FOR MY US & CANADIAN CUSTOMERS:

As per the auction these are
Europe Region 2+4 DVDs (US/Canada are Region 1) and you need a multi-regional (multi-zone) DVD player to play them!

BUT don't panic just yet :-)

Many DVD players are easy to unlock.
Let me know the brand and model number of your DVD player so I see if there is a simple unlock code for your player.

Many of my US/Canadian customers chose to play or copy these DVDs on a PC before playing them.

I also see there are many economical Multi Region DVD players on EBay ($35-50).
Just do a search if you wish.

It seems a shame to let go of this great DVD set.

Cheers :-)
