OK. Here's another very rare Apple II accessory. For the collector who thinks he/she has almost everything Apple! This unit was only used briefly for evaluation. I don't believe many Apple II units were ever sold.
Exatron made their String Floppy initially for the Radio Shack TRS-80 computer where it was very successful as a high speed strorage device. Much faster than cassette tape which was the norm at that time. And not as expensive as floppy drives. More info can be found on Wikipedia.
A quick search on eBay reveals that extra cartridges are still available! While the unit worked perfectly last time it was connected, it has been sitting for almost 35 years in a closet (indoors, smoke free environment) and tape oxide does have a tendency to flake off after a while. So consider this a collector's item that may or may not work when you get it.
