Sneezewort is a Yarrow-like perennial with an erect, slightly hairy stem that grows to about 60cm and dies back in the winter.
The composite flowers consist of off-white, short and broad rays (petals) surrounding a yellowish brown disc floret. Flowering is from July to September.
This is a plant of damp or wet habitats on a wide range of neutral to slightly acid soils. It is particularly associated with mires, water meadows, rush-pastures and stream-sides but can occasionally be found in wet woodlands and waste ground. The open flowers are attractive to a wide range of pollinating insects, particularly hoverflies.

DORMANCY - Many tree, shrub and conifer seeds and some perennial seeds have a natural period of dormancy. This is a natural process which ensures the seeds do not germinate till conditions suit, usually in the spring. The natural dormancy of the seed can be broken by a period of stratification. This will be explained in the instructions supplied with the seed. This may require some patience but you will be rewarded with lots of plants at minimal cost. It is possible to create a box, yew or beech hedge for just a few pounds!
