Borax Technical Grade in a 3oz Bag is a industrial grade product. This is Borax Pentahydrate in the Granular form. Borax can be used to glaze ceramic crucibles to prolong the life and provides for a smooth surface during melting process, ensures that your metal doesn't stick to the ceramic crucible. It is also useful during casting, as a flux in Jewelry casting.
Borax when used in melting of Gold and Silver helps to dissolve Oxides and other impurities, during the melting process will produce a fluid slag that collects on the surface of the molten metal. This slag is periodically removed, by use of a carbon-graphite or clay rod.
NOTE: It is advised that ceramic crucibles be glazed with this Borax. To use it as a glaze for crucibles. Pre-Heat the crucible prior to use, a pinch or two of the borax then can be spread over the crucible and heat applied again to melt and cure the crucible surface. This process will prolong the life and usage.
