ABOUT THIS BOOK: This is volume  XVII of  The Definitive Edition published by Gabriel Wells featuring THE PERSONAL RECOLLECTIONS OF JOAN OF ARC Volume One by Mark Twain. The Definitive Edition consisted of thirty-seven octavo volumes bound in blue cloth-backed boards with printed paper labels on the spines and was limited to 1024 sets. The specially made Old Enfold deckle-edged paper for the edition contains a circular watermark reading "Mark Twain - Samuel Clemens."

This volume contain an appreciation by Henry Van Dyke and introduction by Albert Bigelow Paine  and are  illustrated with photogravure frontispiece and plates protected by tissue guards.

Featuring the following illustrations and the artists that did them:

  • THE VISION OF JOAN - (frontispiece, Jules Eugene Lenepveu)
  • JOAN BELIEVED SHE HAD DAILY SPEECHES WITH ANGELS - (Howard Pyle)
  • JOAN DISCOVERS THE DISGUISED KING - (Frank Vincent Du Mond)
  • THE MAID OF ORLEANS - (Frank Vincent Du Mond)
  • JOAN AND THE DWARF - (Frank Vincent Du Mond)
  • THE VICTORIOUS ENTRY OF JOAN INTO ORLEANS (from a painting by Jean-Jacques Scherrer - this illustration appeared in the 1896 first edition but had not appeared in previous uniform editions)

  Joan of Arc is divided into two volumes in the Gabriel Wells Definitive Edition, and both are available in my store. This is Volume 17. Volume 17 contains Book I and Book II (Chapters 1 thru 27).  The remainder of Book II (Chapters 28 thru 41) and Book III is in Volume 18 of THE WORKS OF MARK TWAIN.

CONDITION: This copy is unused and in very good condition. Many of the pages are uncut. It is very difficult to read this book with uncut pages.  So I believe this book is unread.  Old book smell. Outside cover is worn around the edges.
