Book Details
Originally published circa 1910, this rare crochet booklet
was produced by Fleisher Yarns as a promotional pattern book for their yarn
products. Referred to at the time as “college robes,” these projects are
crocheted letter blankets and pillows made in the colors and initials of a
school, sports team, academy, college, institution, society, or club.
The book includes directions and charts for creating these
classic school letter blankets, along with an A–Z alphabet chart with
measurements for each letter. Instructions are provided for joining colors and
completing each crochet project with easy-to-follow directions.
Examples of completed robes (blankets) and pillows are shown
for Harvard, Yale, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Princeton, and Bryn Mawr,
demonstrating how the patterns can be adapted for many different schools and
organizations.
These vintage collegiate designs were originally intended
for campus life and sporting events, but they also make wonderful monogram
blankets, alumni gifts, graduation keepsakes, or school-color projects today —
all with a touch of Edwardian-era collegiate style.
