Sp1 - The Next
Doctor:
This special will see the return of the Cybermen (of the
design of the parallel universe's Cybus Industries Cybermen),
following their previous appearance in the two-part finale of
series two in 2006, "Army of Ghosts"/"Doomsday".
It will feature a new type of Cyberman
called Cybershade, and a character named the CyberKing. |

The Doctor arrives at a
market on Christmas Eve of 1851, and rushes towards a woman,
Rosita, who is screaming for the Doctor. However, she fails to
recognise him, at which point David Morrissey's character
appears, identifying himself as the Doctor. This Doctor
references the TARDIS, the sonic screwdriver and being a Time
Lord, before both Doctors point their sonic screwdrivers at a
Cybershade and shout "Allons-y!" in unison.
David Morrissey is the main guest star, playing "a character
called The Doctor – a man who believes himself to be a Time
Lord". |

The Doctor learns that the date is 21
November 2059, and that the base is Bowie Base One, the first
human outpost on Mars, named after David Bowie, the singer of
Life on Mars?. Recalling future history that the base was
destroyed in a mysterious explosion and Brooke and her crew
were all killed, the Doctor decides he should leave, unwilling
to break the laws of time and interfere with fixed points in
history. Before he can leave, Andy Stone and Maggie Cain are
infected by a mysterious life form which takes over their
bodies and threatens all of life on Earth too.
Bowie Base One. Last recorded message: "Don't drink the water.
