Silicon is a lustrous black solid that looks like a metal, and it is sold commercially as "Silicon Metal".  Silicon is used when alloyed with various metals. The presence of silicon improves the metal's castability with improved fills, acts as a deoxidizer and provides durability.

Silicone is one of a few elements to be useful additions for modifying carat gold alloys without detrimentally changing other relevant properties (Zinc, Silicon, Iridium, Cobalt). 

In alloying the metal with Zinc, the additive of Silicone, improves castings, with Fills and Finish by reducing tension and improving the castings with a brighter surface and color.
