This is a solid metal with an antique silver finish.  It is not sterling silver.  The antique silver versions are no longer authorized as they have been replaced by the mirrored finished badges.  In addition, as of 2004 the Space Operations and Missile Operations badges have been united as one and are no longer separate functions.  These factors make this item even more collectable. It is a government issue U.S Air Force Space Operations, Master Badge.  It is 7/8 inches wide, and 5/8 inches high.  It has the hallmarked on the back of  “CM GI”.  On back there are two pins for clamps or frogs to hold the badge in place. These were supply issued and came on a card that has the national stock number for ordering by the squadrons.  The date it was made 11/84 (or Nov 1984) is also listed on the card.   These badges come in the original sealed plastic bag, card with badge information and and are are in mint condition.  In addition, this career field is now part of the new Space Force.  Great item for shadow boxes.

The Space Operations Badge was a military badge of the United States Air Force which was awarded to those personnel who completed training in space warning, satellite command and control, missile operations, space surveillance, or space lift. It was typically issued as a companion decoration to the Missile Badge.

In 2004, the Air Force Force Space Command Commander, General Lance Lord, announced the introduction of a new badge. The new Space Professional Badge replaced the Space Operations Badge and the Missile Operations Badge. The new badge is no longer limited to pure space and missile operators, but is also awarded to scientists, engineers and acquisition officer who have performed space/missile acquisition and operations duties.
