Bill Bussman must’ve had a sense of humor. Not only is this a really unique looking mandolin. It’s a great playing mandolin too. I bought this from George Gruhn’s shop some 20 years ago or so. I called Bill sometime after I purchased the mandolin to find out more about it and if there would be another juicy out there. He told me there would only be one juicy. Although he did make other watermelon mandolins they always had a different name like sweet.. He was surprised that George sold it because the last time he saw it, George was playing it up and down the aisles of some guitar show somewhere.. Anyway, it remains in really good shape structurally and cosmetically. Although in the cosmetic department, it does have some fingernail marks on the top. Put there by a darn good mandolin player who loved this mandolin. He will remain anonymous cause I’m still a bit pissed about it. But all in all this is just a sweet mandolin. It’s got elements of a good oval hole mandolin and a few elements of an F style mandolin. It’s fun to play and it will turn heads at your next jam. Let me know if you have questions. Comes with a Levys CM21 soft case with shoulder strap.
