1974 POPI Ragamuffin Army Original TV Pilot First Draft Script CBS Elizondo
Vintage November 5, 1974 first-draft television pilot script for POPI, titled “The Ragamuffin Army,” written by Tina and Lester Pine.
The front production cover identifies the document as “A Half-Hour Television Pilot Script” and lists Herbert B. Leonard as Executive Producer, International Television Productions and Allied Artists.
This is particularly interesting because “The Ragamuffin Army” was subsequently produced as the actual pilot episode of POPI and broadcast by CBS on May 2, 1975.
The television series starred Héctor Elizondo as Abraham “Popi” Rodriguez, a widowed Puerto Rican father raising his sons Luis and Junior in New York. The pilot centers on Popi's attempt to keep his sons out of trouble by involving them with the Boy Scouts.
The script predates the television broadcast by approximately six months and is specifically identified on the production cover as the FIRST DRAFT dated November 5, 1974.
Writers Tina and Lester Pine were also the screenwriters of the acclaimed 1974 film CLAUDINE starring Diahann Carroll and James Earl Jones.
An uncommon piece of surviving 1970s television production material with connections to CBS television history, Héctor Elizondo, Latino television history and the development of a network television pilot.

Condition
Very good vintage condition overall for a production script more than 50 years old.
Original cover shows light handling wear, minor edge/corner wear, small marks and normal age-related surface wear. Interior pages appear clean and well preserved with expected age and handling wear.
Bound with period metal script fasteners.
No signatures or handwritten cast/crew attribution observed in the photographs provided.
