Venom: on Trial #1 (Marvel Comics March 1997).
The storyline tackles a major media circus as Eddie Brock is put on trial for Venom's past rampage crimes.
- The Defense: Because Brock has no money for legal counsel, the court appoints a pro-bono defense team. His public defender ends up being none other than Matt Murdock (Daredevil), who tries to argue that Eddie Brock and the alien symbiote are separate entities, meaning Brock shouldn't be held entirely responsible for the creature's actions.
- The Twist: Naturally, the trial doesn't stay confined to a quiet courtroom. Things fall apart when anti-mutant/anti-hero government elements like Bastion interfere, prompting Venom to attempt a prison breakout while Matt Murdock finds himself caught right in the middle of the chaos.
