A fantastic vintage German commercial chocolate/confectionery mould by NICOL of Köln (Cologne), featuring a wonderful assortment of highly detailed three-dimensional animal forms.

This is a substantial professional confectioner’s mould containing numerous individual cavities arranged in rows. The animals include rabbits, sheep/rams, rhinoceros, pigs/boars and monkeys/apes, each with nicely modelled fur, facial and body detailing.

The mould carries the NICOL maker’s mark impressed into the edge, together with additional stamped identification/production markings. One further rectangular manufacturer’s stamp is present but has become worn and difficult to decipher completely.

This would originally have been used by a professional chocolatier or confectioner to produce batches of small novelty chocolate animals.
