Batman #138 – CGC Universal Grade 8.5 (VF+) – Off-White Pages
This is a high-grade Silver Age Batman from 1961 with a classic monster cover. In “Secret of the Sea Beast!” Batman and Robin, in full scuba gear, face a giant red sea dragon while their spears bounce off its scales. Batman co-creator Bill Finger wrote the story, and Sheldon Moldoff drew the cover. It’s a great example of the sci-fi and monster era that collectors love.

Why This Copy
This copy has outstanding eye appeal. The bold yellow Batman logo over the green bat-wing, the fiery red and orange sea beast and the bright blue undersea background make it one of the most colorful Batman covers of the early ’60s. The “Still 10¢” cover banner adds period charm. The back cover has the vintage American Seed Co. “Make Money, Get Prizes” ad, full of colorful prize images like a Daisy air rifle, a pocket radio and a Chemcraft lab.
The book also carries house ads for two important DC debuts: the first Silver Age Hawkman and Rip Hunter #1. Add a Bill Finger story and a VF+ grade, and this is a standout for any Batman or Silver Age DC collection.
