Harry Harvey Clarke (1869-1948)

“A Sheltered Pool”

Original Signed Etching

In my personal opinion Clarke is one of the great English masters in depicting trees both in his etched work and his paintings.

Born in Northampton, Clarke was a painter and etcher, predominantly of landscapes.

His work is precise, clean and pleasing to the eye.

He favoured Leicestershire, Wales and Cornwall for his subjects.

He is recorded as having taught at the Leicester College of Art, in addition to Market Harborough Grammar School, not that far from Leicester.

He is listed in Guichards English Etchers 1850-1940.

He exhibited nationally including at theRoyal Academy with 15 accepted submissions.

This is a lovely etching, signed by the artist in pencil right lower margin and clearly titled in pencil on the left.

A ruined church tower and building glimpsed through the trees and river bridge centre right, seen across a beautiful still sheltered pool with reflections. Stunning.

Plate: 17.5cm  x 20cm

Sheet: 21cm x  22cm

Printed on a cream laid paper. Relatively narrow margins

The etching is loose, paper hinged from the top and mounted as shown with modern cream coloured board, measuring overall 27cm x 300cm.

Condition is good with no foxing, tears, damage our creasing plate or margins. Mount also in good condition.

My photos are in natural daylight with nom post digital enhancing. I try to ensure what you see is what you get.
