The 1:100 is the whole pitch. A shop had to order a hundred copies of this issue to earn the right to one of these, so the print run on this cover is tiny compared to anything else on the rack. It is also a virgin variant, meaning the art is printed with no logo and no trade dress over it. Pablo Villalobos has Iron Man punching straight out of the page in a wall of gold and white light, repulsor firing, the city skyline going dark behind him while the whole frame burns. It is bright, it is loud, and with nothing printed across the top it hangs like a piece of art. First issue of the new volume on top of that.

Tony Stark built the armor because he was dying. That is the part people forget, and this run puts it back at the center. What does he build the next time death comes for him? Worse, what happens if somebody else builds it first? Madame Masque has been asking the same question, and with A.I.M. behind her she is close to an answer. Joshua Williamson writes Tony like a man racing his own ending, and Carmen Carnero draws some of the cleanest, most kinetic superhero pages at Marvel right now. A New Nightmare, issue one, so it is a real jumping on point, and an easy grab for anybody who has been waiting for an Iron Man run worth following.
