We suggest before ordering to remove the front window of your clean base to test if the window is causing the docking error. The window can be carefully pried off using a slim screwdriver or a pry tool to pry on each side of the window. If your roomba docks properly after this window is removed, then you know it’s your window that is causing the error. If it still isn’t docking properly even without the window, there is likely another possible cause like a failed infrared sensor.

Behind the IR window of the clean base there is a small circuit board that contains several infrared components. One infrared sensor helps guide the Roomba toward the charging station. There are also two transceivers that emit alignment signals that allow the roomba to precisely line up with the dock for charging and emptying. If the window becomes heavily scratched, cracked, or damaged, these signals can become distorted, making it difficult or impossible for the Roomba to dock successfully.

We developed this replacement because we acquired a self-emptying charger that was missing the front window entirely. The final design uses clear PETG filament, which allows the infrared signals to pass through and two small openings at the top that help ensure accurate signal transmission and reliable docking performance. We have tested it on a self emptying clean base successfully.

These are compatible with the ADE-N1 self emptying chargers that are paired with the i1, i2, i3, i4, i6, i7, i8 roombas
