Vintage Steiff Jocko Chimpanzee 

 

Description

Original Steiff Jocko chimpanzee, made in Germany in brown mohair and dating from approximately 1968–1973.

This is the earlier fully articulated form of the 25 cm Jocko, corresponding with Art. No. 0020/25. It has jointed arms, legs and head, a peach felt face and ears, large individually shaped felt hands and feet, and the characteristic contrasting white mohair beneath the chin.

The original Steiff Button in Ear remains present together with part of the yellow manufacturer's flag. An internal press squeaker is fitted but is no longer operational.

The chimpanzee measures approximately 28 cm from the top of the head to the foot in its present position; Steiff designated this pattern as the 25 cm catalogue size.

Condition

Good vintage condition with wear commensurate with age. The mohair has some thinning, flattening and general handling wear. The felt face, hands and feet show rubbing, marking and age-related discolouration, particularly around the extremities. The eyes are secure and all joints remain operational. The original squeaker no longer functions. The Steiff button and part of the yellow identification flag survive.
