These Babington’s leek bulbils come from my own garden and this is the last of them - see my feedback for previous customers delighted with these. No chemicals have been used in/on any part of my plants from which these are taken.
These are SO much less hassle than leeks , taste delicious and come back faithfully every year - what’s not to like?
Leek (Allium ampeloprasum var. babingtonii) is a rare, hardy, perennial wild leek native to Britain.
Perennial Growth: The plant multiplies in clumps and returns every year. It dies back during the summer dormancy and re-sprouts in the autumn.
Edibility: Every part of the plant is edible with a mild, sweet garlic-leek flavor.
Bulbils: Instead of traditional seeds, they produce small bulbils on top of tall flower stalks in summer, which can be planted to grow new patches.
- Planting: Plant bulbils or small bulbs about 3 to 7.5 cm deep in autumn or winter.
- Location: Thrives in full sun or partial shade in most standard garden soils, including clay.
- Harvesting: Let the plant establish for at least a first year before harvesting. Cut stems just above soil level when harvesting to allow regrowth.
