Extremely Rare antique Willson Zylbex Eye Protector eyewear lot consisting of two pairs of round tinted protective glasses, each with its original ZYLBEX Eye Glass case.

The inside of both original cases is marked:

“ZYLBEX Eye Glass”

“The Glass in Vogue”

“Trade Mark Reg. U.S. Pat. Off.”

Zylbex eyewear is associated with Willson protective eyewear and surviving examples are generally attributed to the 1910s–1920s era. Comparable period examples are described as early Willson Eye Protectors.

The glasses feature large round tinted lenses, amber/tortoiseshell-colored translucent frames, metal temples, and distinctive metal nose-pad assemblies. The frame material appears consistent with period celluloid / zylonite-type material.

Condition

Both pairs are offered in unrestored antique condition.

Importantly, both frames are broken in approximately the same area near the bridge/nose-pad mounting points. lenses fall out of frames. The original broken pieces are present, as shown in the photographs. No attempt has been made to glue, repair, or restore the frames.

The lenses show considerable age-related wear including scratches, haze, spotting, discoloration and surface marks. The metal components show oxidation, finish wear and patina.

Both original cases show significant age-related wear, including scuffs, staining, edge and corner wear, loss of exterior covering, and general deterioration.

Sold AS-IS for restoration, display, historical study, or collection.

A particularly interesting survivor because this lot includes two matching Zylbex examples together with two original branded cases.

Please examine all photographs carefully; they are an important part of the description and show the exact condition, damage and contents of the lot.
