The Paris Commune is the most important of the insurrectional communes of France in 1870-1871, which lasted 72 days, from March 18, 1871 to the “Bloody Week” of May 21 to 28, 1871. Composed of an engraving cut in the form of a cut. Entitled: “Last resistance of the insurgents, rue du Four-Saint-Germain”.
This engraving depicts an intense combat scene in a Paris street. We see insurgents setting up barricades and resisting the armed forces. The street is littered with debris and bodies, illustrating the violence of the conflict. Parisian buildings are visible in the background, adding an urban context to the scene.
This event took place during the "Bloody Week" from May 21 to 28, 1871, the last phase of the Paris Commune where the Communards put up desperate resistance against the Versailles troops. The engraving illustrates the chaos and brutality of the fighting in the streets of Paris as the insurrectional movement was on the verge of being crushed.
