A stunning example of an ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.
The fossil ammonite measures 60 mm (2.3 inches) across and sits in the original limestone matrix it was found in, which measures 130 mm (5.15 inches) across.
The ammonite is very well preserved an has been prepared to reveal the detail of the shell, which shows some lovely subtle iridescence with the colours changing as the viewing angle changes, with faint red flashes present.
The rock matrix has been shaped and has a cut-flat base that allows it to stand freely by itself for display. The fossil weighs 218 grams.
Around 200 million years old, this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
