Vintage Hand-Stitched Shou Xing Needlework from the Estate of Alyce Ideker Beene

This exceptional vintage hand-stitched textile depicts Shou Xing (Shoulao), the revered Chinese Taoist God of Longevity and one of the Three Star Gods. Representing health, wisdom, prosperity, and long life, Shou Xing is shown holding his traditional staff with a hanging gourd (hulu) while carrying the sacred Peach of Immortality.

This piece comes from the estate of Alyce Ideker Beene (1927–2011) of Fairfax, Virginia, an accomplished member of the Embroidery Guild of America (EGA). The fine workmanship is evident in the even stitching, balanced tension, and beautifully finished reverse, reflecting the skill of an experienced needleworker.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition. The central Shou Xing design is fully stitched and complete. The surrounding background fabric remains unstitched, allowing the next owner to frame the piece as-is or add a stitched background if desired.
