Notes This item came from a Scout Blanket from a Senior
Scout from the UK that attended the 1955 World Jamboree. (An image of a
portion of this blanket is shown but the item featured in the lead image and
the main description is what is for sale.) You can see that this youth collected a wide variety
of items from nations all over the world. Some items featured the 1955 WJ logo
while other items did not. Some items
were identifiable as being from a Scouting organization while other items are
not easily connected to Boy Scouts. Other items that were traded included event badges
from previous Jamborees and local and national events held in the country where
the youth lived.
Badge trading
has been a popular tradition at World Scout Jamborees for many decades. Participants exchange memorabilia to build
international friendships. Badges and patches were always one of the most
popular items but pennants, woggles, neckers, shirts and so much more,
exchanged hands.
Typically,
participants brought items like contingent crests or patches that identified
their country of origin to trade in exchange for a like item.
Normally youth
were encouraged not to trade official
awards, ranks, badges of office, or religious medals but many times these
items still exchanged hands.

The World Scout Jamboree is a Scouting
Jamboree of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, typically
attended by several tens of thousands of Scouts from around the world, aged 14
to 17.
The first World Scout Jamboree was organized by The Scout
Association in London. With exceptions for the World War years and the
Iranian Revolution, it has been organized approximately every four years, and
in the more recent years has been organised by the World Organization of
the Scout Movement (WOSM), in different locations over the world. At
the jamboree, many scouts will swap badges.
