Up for sale is a very rare pair of vintage Bulgarian-made rubber toys depicting the iconic Barbapapa and Barbamama characters. In my opinion, they date from circa 1979.

The figures are made of hollow soft rubber with molded features and hand-painted details. Barbapapa still retains the original molded Bulgarian price marking on the bottom, “Ц 4.90 ЛВ” (price 4.90 Bulgarian leva).

Both figures have an opening on the bottom, most probably originally intended for a squeaker. The squeakers are no longer present.

A charming and unusual Eastern European version of these famous French cartoon characters, and a particularly interesting collectible for Barbapapa and vintage toy collectors.

Both figures are very well preserved for their age, showing only minor signs of age and handling. Please review all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the item description.
