Forgotten Heroes – aces of the Royal Hungarian Air Force in the Second World War, by Csaba B. Stenge, Helion, Warwick, 2019, hardback, dustjacket, 438 pages, numerous black & white photos, some colour photos (ISBN 9781911512684).

This book is the unique story of the 38 Hungarian air aces of the Second World War. These pilots of the Hungarian Air Force fought gallantly against Soviet and American opponents during WW2, and, after the war’s end, the new Hungarian communist regime turned against them as well.

Hungarian aviation historian and archivist Csaba Stenge spent 23 years of extensive research gathering material for this volume.  His work is based mostly on primary sources from Hungarian, German, Russian and American Archives, and also on documents preserved by the aces and their families.

The text is not limited to the highly detailed biographies of the Hungarian aces, but also covers topics such as air combat tactics, air victory confirmation systems, and the awards earned by the aces.

The book contains more than 350 rare images, many of them are previously unpublished.

The book is in good condition, with some minor shelf wear, and wear to the edges of the dustjacket.
