When Thor, Sif, and Balder investigate an atomic research center, they encounter the cosmic, artificial being known as "Him" (later Adam Warlock), who has just emerged from his cocoon. Seeking a mate, Him swiftly incapacitates the heroes and abducts Sif through a vortex.
