Plate Signed in the Work Not Hand Signed or Numbered

Up for your consideration is a vintage Original Woodblock Engraving by 20th century Master Artist Salvador Dali's "The L'Art d'Aimer"(The Art of Love series) titled: Venus. an unusual find from an vintage art portfolio. This listing is for the woodcut shown in picture 1 and comes with scans of the portfolio documentations in pictures 6, 7, and 8. The L'Art d'Aimer (The Art of Love) by Ovid was and is one of Dali's most famous erotic graphic achievements, holding this title to this day. Please do not confuse this with the later 1980s reissue which was relicensed by a different company and printed using a different medium and on a different paper type. The later 1980s reissue was allegedly hand signed but Salvador Dali was mentally deteriorating during his last years. This sad reality and the crooked deeds of some venders in those days created confusion and doubt on hand signed works from those last years.

Offered for sale in these listings ((including)) this listing are the full contents of this series including 13 woodcuts, 1 lithograph, and 1 etching in addition to the 4 hand signed and numbered woodcuts. The Woodcut was printed on Velin D'Arches paper, in 1978, in Paris, and by master printmakers Matthieu and Gourdon. The sheet measures 14 5/8" x 21 3/4".

As you can see from the justification page of the portfolio, there were 5 small sub-editions within the overarching edition, all featuring the same works (the same art itself but with some differences affecting the portfolios and art). The portfolio numbers in the order of the justification page are: 3 units (unnumbered), 9 units (numbered I to IX), 48 units (numbered X to LVII), 44 units (numbered 1 to 44), and 100 units (numbered 45 to 144). The numbering of the portfolio itself and the numbering by Dali's hand on the 4 works that come issued hand signed and numbered are based on the 144 numbering system, though there were roman numeral and a few unnumbered units in the overall edition. So, at least as far as the portfolio is concerned, it was limited to 204 units including even the unnumbered few.  Suffice to say, it was a very very limited edition, deserving of the hand signed and numbered works enclosed in the portfolio.

The exact contents, paper used, and quantity produced varied by sub-edition. Suffice to say, all works in the series are scarce, beautiful, and highly valuable examples of Dali's creative genus in original print making and art in general. This woodcut was pulled directly from portfolio #58, from the sub-edition of 100 units (numbered 45 to 144) with the enclosed works printed on Velin d'Arches paper. Other valuable information/attributes for this piece can be found through out this listing and if anything requires clarification, please write. Though this woodcut was issued unsigned and unnumbered, it is verified to be one of the 15 works from this super scarce portfolio and an accurate standalone description is that it is a scarce, beautiful, and highly valuable examples of Dali's creative genus in original print making and art in general. We will provide our documentation on providence and other information about the work in the form of a proof of identify (COA).

It is a beautiful vintage Original woodcut that would look lovely hanging on one of your walls! (see other Original woodcut listings for those other walls or for gifts!)
