ENGLISH STERLING SILVER
A. HAVILAND-NYE FOUNTAIN PEN
QUEEN ELIZABETH II GOLDEN JUBILEE
LONDON HALLMARKS · SELF-FILLING MECHANISM · 13.5CM
AN ELEGANT HALLMARKED SILVER WRITING INSTRUMENT
A finely made sterling silver fountain pen by A. Haviland-Nye, bearing London silver hallmarks together with marks commemorating the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

With its clean ribbed finish, traditional self-filling mechanism and understated proportions, this is both a practical writing instrument and an attractive piece of modern English silver.

The sterling silver body is decorated throughout with a finely ribbed linear pattern, giving the pen a refined appearance while providing a comfortable textured grip.

Its restrained design allows the quality of the silver and craftsmanship to remain the principal focus, making it equally suitable for regular use, desk display or inclusion within a collection of fine writing instruments.

The body carries clear London silver hallmarks alongside commemorative Golden Jubilee marks, connecting the pen with the celebrations marking fifty years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Unlike a modern cartridge-filled pen, this example retains its traditional internal self-filling mechanism.

With the nib immersed in bottled ink, the end mechanism is twisted to draw ink directly into the internal reservoir, preserving the traditional method and character of fountain-pen writing.

The original nib section remains present and shows only minimal evidence of previous use.

The silver body is engraved with the initials “D.W”, forming part of the pen’s individual history and clearly shown in the photographs.

TRADITIONAL SELF-FILLING MECHANISM

The pen uses an integral twist-operated filling system rather than disposable ink cartridges.

This allows the reservoir to be filled directly from an ink bottle and gives the pen the more traditional operation favoured by many fountain-pen collectors and enthusiasts.

The mechanism is complete and was in good working order when tested. As with any previously owned fountain pen, careful cleaning and the use of suitable fountain-pen ink are recommended before extended use.
