A charming original Max Carl mechanical drummer from the Jolly Musical Monkeys / Lustige Urwald-Musik series, complete with its colourful original illustrated box.

The monkey has plush covering, glass eyes and a blue felt pointed hat, with a lithographed red-and-white striped tinplate drum held in front. When wound, the clockwork mechanism operates the drumming action, as shown in the video that will be uploaded to the listing.

This drummer formed part of Max Carl's three-piece musical monkey group alongside maracas and cymbal-playing versions, all of which are illustrated on the original box lid. The surviving box is an important addition and retains its vivid jungle artwork together with the Jolly Musical Monkeys, Lustige Urwald-Musik and Made in Western Germany markings.

Good overall vintage condition with age-related wear. The plush covering shows general surface soiling, fading and light matting, with small marks to the face and limbs.

The blue felt hat has light wear and marks, while the lithographed tinplate drum shows minor scratches and rubbing. The clockwork mechanism is working and the drumming action operates as shown in the video.

The original illustrated box is present with general storage wear, rubbing, creasing, edge and corner wear and some small splits and tears. Despite this, the colourful period artwork remains very attractive and displays well alongside the toy.
