We are a small family business based in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, passionate about preserving history through authentic military artifacts. Established in 2014, every item in our store has a story to tell, connecting you to a meaningful piece of the past.
This is a U.S. Army general officer's garrison cap in Army Green, the soft folding side cap worn with the Army Green service uniform. It is made of the fine green gabardine used for officers' dress, and its fold is trimmed the full length with the intertwined gold and black officer's cord edge braid.
The rank is unmistakable. Pinned to the left front is a single silver five-pointed star, the insignia of a Brigadier General, the one-star grade and the first rung of the Army's general officers. The star is a quality piece, its reverse marked "1/20 Sterling," a silver-filled sterling maker's stamp. The front curtain carries the pair of small gilt general's buttons, and the cap is finished inside with a green satin lining. Everything about it, the gold-trimmed cord, the star, and the gilt buttons, marks it as the personal cap of a flag officer rather than an ordinary line officer.
The garrison cap has been the American soldier's everyday folding service cap since before the Second World War, but on a general officer it became something far rarer, because the single silver star of a Brigadier General is worn by only a tiny handful of the Army's officers, the men who command brigades and hold the senior posts that run an army. Through the Vietnam War and the Cold War decades, a one-star general in his Army Greens wore exactly this cap, its gold cord and lone star setting him apart in any room. General officer headgear is among the most sought-after of all U.S. uniform items precisely because so few men ever earned the right to wear it, which makes a Brigadier General's garrison cap a genuinely scarce and impressive piece.
It is in excellent condition, clean, sharp, and well shaped, with the gold and black cord braid, the green lining, and the gilt buttons all present and sound, and the sterling star crisp and clearly marked on the reverse. It shows only light age, with a touch of honest wear and tarnish to the buttons, and it displays beautifully. This is a standard U.S. Army officer's service cap with no restricted symbols or markings on the item or in any photo, fully compliant with eBay's policies.
