STEIFF 682681 TEDDY BEAR SCARECROW
Description
An exceptionally complete original Steiff
Scarecrow Teddy Bear from The Wizard of Oz, EAN 682681, produced in
2014 in a limited edition of only 1,939 examples.
The edition size was deliberately chosen to
commemorate 1939, the year of release of the celebrated MGM film.
Made from antique caramel-coloured mohair,
the bear has been designed with an intentionally aged and rustic appearance to
reflect the Scarecrow character. The expressive face features black eyes and a
hand-embroidered brown nose and mouth.
The original costume remains complete and
includes a brown felt hat with green trim, olive-green smock with fringed
collar and cuffs, rope neck and waist ties, and brown trousers. The
deliberately frayed textile finish is original to the design.
This bear is individually numbered 544/1939
and retains its original Steiff ear label, gold-plated Button in Ear, original
tags, presentation box, numbered certificate and associated paperwork.
A particularly attractive and complete example
of one of Steiff’s most distinctive Wizard of Oz character bears.
