Victorian Silver Milk Churn Pepper Pot

A charming miniature sterling silver pepper pot by Saunders & Shepherd, modelled as a milk churn and hallmarked Chester 1897.

The tapered body has two small side handles and engraved horizontal bands. Its flared lift-off cover contains a recessed pierced top with a central knop, while gilding remains visible inside the body and cover.

Hallmarked on the body with the maker’s mark, sterling silver lion passant, Chester assay mark and date letter “O” for 1897. Corresponding lion and date marks appear on the cover.

CONDITION

Good antique condition overall, with surface scratches, small dings and tarnishing. Wear and dark spotting to the gilding. The maker’s mark is partly rubbed, with the assay and date marks legible. Please examine all photographs for the condition and detail.
