A Nanking Cargo porcelain bowl decorated in the imari 'Peony Rock' pattern, featuring peony, chrysanthemum, bamboo and flowering peach issuing from a rocky terrace on the exterior and a camelia spray and trellis pattern border to the interior. Measures 15cm in diameter at the rim and 7cm tall, Christie's label to the base (lot number 3156). Much of the iron-red and gold overglaze decoration has deteriorated following the long immersion in the sea, leaving ghostly outlines of the original pattern. There are a few minor firing imperfections and a small underglaze flaw to the footring (see last photo), otherwise in very good condition - please see all photos for confirmation.
