Original Second World War period British Army officer’s greatcoat, manufactured by Montague Burton Ltd.

The surviving paper label inside identifies the maker as Montague Burton Limited. No other labels remain to identify the original owner.

The coat is made from heavy khaki wool and features brass General Service buttons, together with Captain’s rank pips to the epaulettes. The interior is lined in a satin-type fabric.

A particularly notable feature of this example is its generous size. This is one of the largest WWII-period officer’s greatcoats I have personally come across in around 20 years of dealing, making it especially appealing to collectors looking for a larger wearable example.

Overall condition is fairly good for its age, with expected service and storage wear. There are several areas of surface moth tracking / grazing to the wool, much of which can be made less noticeable by carefully teasing the surface pile. There is also a patch repair to the lapel, which could potentially be improved cosmetically with some careful stitching around the edge. Some wear is also present around the buttonholes.
