This book is a playful conversation between two important bodies of photographic work. Each spread of Déjà View pairs one of Martin Parr’s iconic snapshots with an image from The Anonymous Project’s collection of found amateur photographs taken between the 1950's and 80's. These unnervingly similar ‘twin’ pictures remind us of photography’s greatest power: to intimately preserve everyday moments of humour, warmth, ennui and absurdity.

Martin Parr (who died in December 2025 aged 73) was one of Britain’s most esteemed and well-loved photographers; he published around 40 solo photobooks and was a member of Magnum Photos for nearly 30 years.

The Anonymous Project is dedicated to collecting and preserving mid-century colour slides from around the world. Started in 2017 by filmmaker Lee Shulman, the project brings to light Kodachrome memories that might otherwise be lost forever. Shulman is an acclaimed filmmaker, visual artist, and curator who has become a major figure in the contemporary art world. 

Born in London in 1973 and currently based in Paris, Shulman spent two decades working as an award-winning director for high-profile music videos and commercial films before transitioning into fine art photography. 
His career completely shifted in 2017 when he bought a random box of vintage 35mm Kodachrome slides online. Captivated by the candid, unpolished slices of mid-century family life trapped on the film, he founded The Anonymous Project.
