About Dead Funk Summit:

Dead Funk Summit grew out of guitarist Joe Marcinek’s idea of bringing together two musical worlds — the Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia jam-band tradition and classic New Orleans funk. The concept brought together musicians including Melvin Seals, longtime keyboardist with the Jerry Garcia Band, and George Porter Jr. of The Meters. Marcinek has described Seals as representing the “Dead” side and Porter as representing the “Funk” side of the Summit. The project developed into rotating all-star live performances and eventually the 2023 Dead Funk Summit album.
