This exceptional antique German bisque porcelain nodder figurine is a premium example of late 19th-century Chinoiserie design, dating circa 1880–1910. Beautifully modeled as a seated, bald Asian man with a prominent moustache holding a traditional smoking pipe, this rare collectible features a traditional moving head mechanism powered by an internal counterweighted porcelain pendulum. When gently touched, the head bobs and nods perfectly. The figurine stands at a lovely display height of approximately 5.5 inches.
This piece features rare, intricate wire hanger holes on the front of his ruffled collar, a hallmark design used by premier Thuringian makers like Gebrüder Heubach or Schaefer & Vater for multi-movement figures. Please note there is some honest, age-related wear and minor surface residue around these collar holes where the original wire components naturally rested and moved over time. The figurine is crafted from premium unglazed biscuit porcelain, giving it a soft, matte finish that beautifully showcases the detailed hand-painted blue floral sprays on his pink robe, striped undersleeves, and bright yellow shoes. The interior base rim is structurally sound with the original metal pin rigging intact and bears an authentic stamped factory production/mold number ("30."). The pipe and fingers remain free of chips or cracks.
