This exceptional pair of antique German bisque porcelain nodder figurines is a beautiful example of late Victorian or Edwardian whimsical design, dating circa 1890–1915. Modeled as a charming companion set, the figurines depict a young Victorian boy and girl riding decorated pack mules or beach donkeys. The girl wears a vibrant turquoise-blue tiered dress with a wide-brimmed bonnet, while the boy is dressed in a matching sailor-style tunic and hat. Both donkey figures feature separate, counterweighted porcelain heads that rock and nod playfully with the slightest vibration (one is missing end of wire so doesn’t nod as well, may need a small repair to nod properly) The figurines stand at a perfect display height of approximately 5 inches in height.

Crucially, the hollow bases of both figures bear an authentic, matching hand-painted red factory artisan's number "3". This identical numbering proves beyond doubt that these two pieces have remained a true, factory-matched pair since they left the German pottery kiln over a century ago. They are in remarkable antique condition with no chips or cracks to the highly fragile, upright donkey ears or the children's limbs, which are typically the first areas to suffer damage.
