Russell worked for The Times, reporting on major conflicts including the Crimean War, the Austro-Prussian War, and the Franco-German War.  Volume I and Volume II explore how Russell brought the raw realities of battlefields directly to the public, facing official military censorship and shaping modern journalism ethics. Description Two volume set. Both volumes in publishers original red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine and front. Boards are in very good order, and the spines on both volumes have been replaced, utilising the original cloth titles tipped in. Structurally the books are excellent with a little shelf wear. Pagination is 393 pp & 413 pp.respectively. Black and white frontispiece on both volumes with tissue protection. Text blocks very slightly cocked in a good condition. Fixed and free font end papers are stamped with a rubber stamp impression and particularly volume 1 has some scrapes.  There is some foxing largely confined to the first few pages and last page of volume one.
