Thank you for checking out our store!
Up for sale is a wonderful antique veterinary reference, "Youatt on the Structure and the Diseases of the Horse, with Their Remedies," brought down by W.C. Spooner, M.R.C.V.S., to which is prefixed "An Account of the Breeds in the United States," compiled by Henry S. Randall. Published in New York by Orange Judd & Company, Agricultural Book Publishers, this handsome green cloth hardcover distills the most important parts of the classic English edition of "Youatt on the Horse" into a practical American handbook for buyers, breeders, breakers, and smiths. The text is packed with detailed chapters on anatomy, breeds, breaking and training, and dozens of ailments and their remedies, all illustrated throughout with numerous engraved figures of equine anatomy, tack, and veterinary instruments.
This copy carries lovely California provenance from its original owners. The front free endpaper bears the bookseller's ticket of Fred M. DeWitt, Bookseller, of 620 Fourteenth Street, Oakland, and an ink stamp for J.C. Plunkett, Attorney at Law, of Ninth Street, Oakland, giving this well-worn working reference a real sense of history. A wonderful shelf piece or working reference for collectors of antique agricultural, equestrian, or veterinary literature.
