• “GOAT LIGHT provides focused reflections by TOM RANKIN and JILL McCORKLE upon their home and farm northwest of Hillsborough in rural Orange County, an oasis of beauty quietly tucked away from the increasingly frenetic pace of the Triangle region. The 9 x 10 inch, 96-page book weaves together many layers, including black and white images made by TOM with large- and medium-format view cameras and lovingly brought to life in his wet darkroom; digital color cell phone pictures taken on the move by TOM over the past decade; and essays by both JILL and TOM about life with the collection of animals that populate their land along the Eno River. The beauty of the Piedmont landscape is the underlying constant as times, lives, and light change through the seasons and over the years.
“GOAT LIGHT is published in an edition of 750 sewn copies, offset printed in full color on 120lb uncoated text weight paper, with covers printed on a hand-fed, hand-cranked letterpress at the HORSE & BUGGY PRESS studio. The heavyweight uncoated cover stock is a mottled color somewhere between that of burlap and hay bale, and the binding features cover flaps for added protection. The first 100 copies already went into the world signed by both TOM and JILL.”

CONDITION OF BOOK: VERY GOOD PLUS.
Book is square & firm. There is a scuff & smudge the size of a quarter to the right of the title on the front cover; otherwise the cover-wraps are clean & bright. Corners are fine. Spine is tight & uncreased with sharp tips. Text-block edges are fine. Pages are pointedly bright & clean—with no writing, no underlining, no highlighting, no foxing, no staining, no tears/rips, no foul odor, etc. LOOKS UNREAD. SUMMARY: One flaw (that cover smudge) but still a stunning beauty!

FLAWS. All discernible flaws will be noted, if not emphasized.
Of course, the grading of condition can be subjective. And since no grader is perfect, it is possible that we may at times miss a flaw.
It is also possible that we may miss some perfections!
Should we make a mistake, you will find FLAPPINCAT eager to fix things with you. Just send us a note and we’ll get on it.
GRADING SYSTEM. For books and magazines (and even other items), we use these terms (in order of desirability):

“POOR.” Except in rare cases, for rare items, we tend to avoid selling items that are in utterly “POOR” condition. It is more likely that on a rare item, only one part of an item (out of numerous parts) will be described as “POOR.”
RETURNS. We accept that you may wish to return a purchase because you genuinely think we haven't described and graded its condition properly. We accept that we our* imperfect. We also accept that people can see things differently—and still be civil!
