“The Orphans III” is a Civil War print by Rick Reeves, but despite the name, it depicts Cockrell’s Missouri Brigade, not the famous Kentucky Orphan Brigade.

The scene is Pigeon Hill at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia, June 27, 1864. Cockrell’s Missourians were defending the Confederate position as Sherman launched a major frontal assault against Johnston’s army.

The title can be confusing because “Orphan Brigade” usually refers to the Confederate Kentucky Brigade. Reeves’s The Orphans III specifically identifies Cockrell’s Missouri Brigade in the artwork’s caption.
