Australia Ricketty Dick Ex Rex N.S.Wales token 1870's nice used condition

This is a souvenir medallion struck for various occasions, this being probably an agricultural show and bearing a portrait of an Australian Aboriginal man that used to live around what is now known as Rose Bay, Sydney. He must have been a known figure to the colonists, because versions of this token are found to depict references to Brisbane and Melbourne. While most local aborigines distanced themselves from Sydney Town, this man readily interacted with the colonists and must have become something of a mascot, which is why his likeness was used for items traded interstate without much explanation. Eventually a local businessman built him a shack to live in and he died in the 1860's aged approximately 65 years old. It's a piece of Australian history and a gentle reminder that not all is, or never has been lost in race relations here.
