Programme for the first night of the 1887 revival of “Man and Wife”, the play by Wilkie Collins, adapted from his own novel. This revival opened at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Tuesday 29 March 1887 and marked the stage debut of Mrs James Brown-Potter, who played Anne Silvester. The 7” by 5.5” programme has eight pages. An annotation on the front cover states that it was issued on the opening night and this is backed up by the fact that only one play title is listed in the programme, but there is also a note stating that from 30 March onwards there would be a farce as a curtain-raiser. The programme has some isolated spots of foxing, the middle pages appear to have been glued into the covers and the whole programme has been trimmed slightly at the margins.
