Original antique Ansonia Clock Co. mantel/shelf clock, dating from approximately the late Victorian or early Edwardian period.
I
t features an attractive architectural wooden case with carved detailing, Roman numeral dial and brass-coloured bezel. The original mechanical movement is stamped:
“Ansonia Clock Co., New York, USA – Patented June 1882.”
Two winding points indicate an eight-day time-and-strike movement, sounding on a coiled gong. Supplied with winding key and pendulum.
The clock shows considerable age-related wear. There are cracks and an old repair around the left winding hole, surface marks and wear to the case, and damage/loss to one corner of the wooden base. The rear door and interior also show wear and historic service markings.
Works for some time and then stops.
Due to its age, no guarantee can be given regarding accuracy or continued operation, and servicing may be required.
