Item
A Cold War era black leather double belt pouch, marked on the reverse with an oval maker's cartouche reading "GES. GESCH." This is an empty leather pouch offered as a collectible and display piece. It has two large box compartments, each closed by a shaped flap under a leather keeper strap, with two vertical belt loops and a central steel suspension D-ring on the back for wear on a waist belt with shoulder support.
The leather shows honest age and storage wear, with patina, surface mold bloom and dryness to the reverse, scuffing, and use, but it remains solid and complete with its rivets and stitching intact.
Design
The "GES. GESCH." stamped in the maker's oval is the German abbreviation for Gesetzlich Geschützt, "legally protected" or "registered design," a mark used on German commercial manufactured goods. That marking is a 20th-century one, and together with the machine-set hardware and the clean box construction it points to a mid-20th-century, Cold War-period piece of field kit rather than an earlier era. The two deep compartments were built to carry a soldier's gear securely on the belt.
Honest identification note: the German-language maker's mark places this in the German-speaking manufacturing sphere, but the exact service it was issued to is best confirmed from the maker's name in that oval stamp. It is described here on what the piece itself shows.
Measurement note: no scale reference photo was included, so dimensions are estimates, the twin unit overall in the general range of 7 to 8 inches wide.
History
Through the decades of the Cold War, the armies, border guards, and police forces of Europe still relied heavily on leather belt kit of exactly this kind, worn at the waist to keep a soldier's essentials close to hand. Rugged, simple, and built to last, leather pouches like this bridged the old world and the modern era right through the long standoff between East and West. With its clear German-language maker's mark and honest, untouched age, it is a characterful and displayable piece of Cold War European militaria.
