ORIGINAL 1887 ISAIAH TABER (1830-1912) 'WASHBURN'S STAGE, BELOW ARTIST'S POINT YOSEMITE VALLEY, CAL 3067' GELATIN SILVER PHOTOGRAPH

This is just a great original piece. I recently acquired a wonderful collection of Western photography from a long time collector.  I will be offering different pieces from the collection over the coming weeks (I am trying to decide what I want to keep for my personal collection).  This is one of my favorites but definitely something better for someone else's collection. I have had a few other photographs in the past by Isaiah Taber but this one was very unique with the people and the horses.  For those not familiar with the photographer, I have included his biography below.  This is a large example measuring 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches.  Title and signature line within image along the bottom.  Not mounted.  Excellent condition.  I cant find another example of this image anywhere.  I love the way the stagecoach is coming down the canyon. If you collect Western Americana and Photography check my store for the others I am offering. FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES!

For those not familiar with the photographer his biography from the Getty Museum reads: " After working for a photographic studio in San Francisco from 1864 until 1871, Massachusetts-born Isaiah West Taber opened his own business, which quickly became one of the premier studios in the city. He had come to San Francisco in 1850 in search of gold but instead found success with photographic silver. During an 1880 trip to the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Islands, Taber photographed King Kalakaua, who again sat for Taber on a visit to San Francisco. In addition to his own photographs, Taber printed, published, and distributed the work of other photographers, including Carleton Watkins. Taber acquired Watkins's negatives in 1881 as a result of Watkins's bankruptcy. He also sold photographic supplies and manufactured dry plates. In 1906 the devastating fire following the San Francisco earthquake destroyed nearly his entire stock: "eighty tons of portrait negatives and twenty tons of view negatives"
